Craig J. Anderson was nominated by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the United States Senate on June 6, 2023 to be the 40th U.S. Marshal for the District of Montana.
Marshal Anderson began his career in the Montana Criminal Justice system as Deputy Juvenile Probation Officer for the Fourth Judicial District in Polson, Montana. Fourteen months later, Marshal Anderson was appointed Chief Probation Officer for the Seventh Judicial District in Glendive, Montana where he served for twenty-four years.
In 2003, Marshal Anderson was appointed Sheriff of Dawson County, Montana and was subsequently elected and re-elected to that Office, serving nearly twelve years.
A core value of Marshal Anderson is making his community and state a better place to live. Committed to public service, he has a long and sustained record. Most notable are twenty-year member of the Montana Board of Crime Control, twenty-six-year member of the Montana Youth Justice Council, Montana Lottery Commissioner, fourteen-year member of the Glendive Medical Center Board of Trustees and thirty-nine-year member of the Glendive Lions Club.
Throughout his forty-year career, Marshal Anderson has had the honor and privilege to serve as President or Chairman of the Montana Probation Officers Association, Montana Correctional Association, Glendive Medical Center Board of Trustees, Montana Juvenile Detention Task Force, Dawson Community College Foundation and Dawson County Economic Development Council.
Marshal Anderson is a fourth generation Montanan and an avid outdoorsman who has hunted and fished all across the Treasure State.
