Marshal Gary Burman

Gary B. Burman was appointed by President Donald J. Trump on July 15, 2019, to be the United States Marshal for the Western District of Kentucky.

As the United States Marshal for the Western District of Kentucky, Burman oversees daily operations of the district's four offices (Louisville, Bowling Green, Owensboro and Paducah); movement and production of federal prisoners; ensures the protection of the Federal Judiciary, and the apprehension of fugitives at the federal, state, and local level.

Most recently, Burman retired from the Louisville Metro Police while in his 40th year of service. Burman was a lieutenant assigned to a patrol division. In addition, Burman had duties as commander of the department's Dignitary Protection Team and responsible for all threat investigations on government official, persons of high profile and threats involving possible mass casualties.

Earlier career responsibilities and assignments include patrol, SWAT, homicide, commander of the intelligence unit, and commander of the Special Response Team. Burman is a former Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Marshal Burman graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Burman is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute.
