The Honorable Jack C. Chambers was sworn in as the U.S. States Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia on August 25, 2026, following his confirmation by the United States Senate.
United States Marshal Chambers oversees all United States Marshals Service operations in the Southern District of West Virginia, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Marshal Chambers began his law enforcement career in 1990 as a Trooper with the West Virginia State Police. Mr. Chambers advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, serving as Detachment and District Commander, Director of Special Operations, Chief of Field Operations, and Deputy Superintendent. His command responsibilities included statewide field operations, specialized tactical units, complex criminal investigations, personnel and resource allocation, and agency administration, including service as the agency’s Chief Financial Officer.
Following his retirement from the West Virginia State Police in 2015 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Mr. Chambers joined the West Virginia Division of Protective Services as Deputy Director, serving as second in command of the agency responsible for law enforcement and security operations at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex. In March 2023, he returned to the West Virginia State Police as Superintendent and was appointed to the rank of Colonel. As Superintendent, Mr. Chambers exercised statewide command over approximately 1,100 sworn and civilian personnel and oversaw agency operations, budgeting, strategic planning, internal investigations, disciplinary matters, training, and interagency coordination.
Throughout his career, Mr. Chambers has worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Marshals Service, and United States Secret Service, among others. His experience includes complex criminal investigations, testimony in state and federal courts, and protection of government facilities and dignitaries.
Mr. Chambers holds a Bachelor of Science and an Associate of Police Science from Marshall University and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He has received United States Attorney’s Awards and completed specialized training in criminal investigations, tactical operations, financial crimes, internal affairs, and law enforcement leadership.
