Columbus, OH – Late last night, members of the U.S. Marshals led Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested Eddie L. Winphrie, 42, in Columbus, Ohio. Winphrie was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department for murder and by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office for trafficking in fentanyl, aggravated drug trafficking, and cocaine trafficking.
On October 17, 2024, Youngstown police responded to and began investigating a shooting incident near the 2300 block of Bott Street. The following day, the body of 24-year-old Reynaldo Hernandez was discovered at Mount Hope Veterans Memorial Cemetery on the city’s east side, not far from Bott Street. It is alleged that Winphrie was involved in the deadly shooting that resulted in the death of Hernandez.
A warrant for Winphrie’s arrest was issued on October 23, 2024. Investigators with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) began searching for Winphrie and several co-defendants. Yesterday, NOVFTF investigators developed information regarding his whereabouts in Columbus, OH. At approximately 10:00 p.m., SOFAST officers located and arrested Winphrie at a residence in the 1300 block of Crestwood Avenue. He was booked into the Franklin County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Youngstown.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This violent fugitive was on the run for a year and half and our task force officers never stopped pursuing him. Last night’s arrest by our counterparts with SOFAST was the culmination of months of tireless investigative efforts.”
The NOVFTF is also offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the last outstanding suspect in the case, Vincent Marbley, 59. Marbley is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 145 pounds. He is known to frequent the Youngstown, Cleveland, and Columbus areas.
