Wanted Fugitive Arrested in Dominica Brought Back to Virgin Islands After Almost 2 Years on the Run

For immediate release

Rashawn Abraham, Deputy U.S. Marshal

District of Virgin Islands
(340) 474-9409

ST. THOMAS, V.I. – AA St. Thomas man wanted on 12 firearm and drug related charges apprehended in Dominica has been brought back to the Virgin Islands by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).

Jahi Grant, 46, wanted by the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) for multiple charges, including possession of an unlicensed machine gun, assault on a law enforcement officer and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, was arrested on Oct. 27 in Dominica by the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF).

“This successful operation highlights the strength of our law enforcement partnerships throughout the Caribbean,” said Kwesi R. Howard, U.S. Marshal of the District of the Virgin Islands. “I commend the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force for their professionalism and cooperation in helping return this fugitive to the Virgin Islands. Working alongside the VIPD and our regional partners, we remain committed to ensuring that those who flee justice are held accountable.”

Grant’s charges stem from a December 2024 incident, in which a machine gun and pistol were recovered. Grant fled the scene, and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest in January 2025.

On Jan. 14, 2025, the VIPD requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in the District of the Virgin Islands in locating and apprehending Grant.

Investigators learned, through community assistance and VIPD and USMS collaboration, that Grant fled St. Thomas and was residing in Dominica. With the support of the USMS Jamaican Foreign Field Office, the CDPF was alerted to Grant’s presence in Dominica and his active warrants out of the Virgin Islands.

On Oct. 19, CDPF Task Force members confirmed seeing Grant. He was taken into custody on Oct. 27 by the CDPF and officially deported and repatriated to the Virgin Islands by U.S. Marshals on Oct. 30.

Once arriving in St. Thomas, Grant was turned over to the VIPD and booked in the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections.
