U.S. Marshals in Virgin Islands Arrest Man Wanted on Failure to Appear Charge in Florida

St. Thomas, VI – The U.S. Marshals (USMS) in the District of the Virgin Islands, along with Virgin Islands Police Department Special Response Team officers and Virgin Islands Department of Justice special agents on Tuesday apprehended in Cruz Bay, St. John Island, a man wanted on a failure to appear warrant in Florida.
Robert Gary, 50, the subject of a collateral lead sent from the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force - Jacksonville, was wanted on a failure to appear warrant out of Jacksonville for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, resisting without violence, and other traffic related charges.
USMS investigators in St. Thomas developed information linking a tattoo shop in Cruz Bay, St. John, licensed to Eric Gary, which was an alias on record for Robert Gary.
On June 2, 2026, at approximately 12:15 p.m. investigators positively identified Gary as he was walking in the vicinity of the U.S. Post Office in Cruz Bay and took him into custody without incident.
U.S. Marshals Service task forces combine the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest our nation’s most dangerous fugitives. These task forces are dedicated to reducing violent crime by locating and apprehending wanted criminals. They also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. In 2025, the U.S. Marshals arrested 73,323 fugitives, cleared 87,984 warrants, which averaged out to around 293 fugitives arrested per day in 2025 alone.
