U.S. Marshals Locate Kentucky Man Wanted for Manslaughter

London, KY – A McCreary County man wanted for manslaughter in the 1st degree was apprehended in North Carolina after a fugitive investigation conducted by U.S. Marshals Service - Central Kentucky Fugitive Task Force (CKFTF) and Kentucky State Police (KSP).
On June 22, a McCreary County grand jury returned an indictment for Billy Proffitt Jr. for the charge of Manslaughter 1st Degree as a result of an investigation conducted by KSP Post 11, Detective Samuel Peace.
On June 23, KSP requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals - CKFTF to locate and apprehend Profitt Jr. KSP is also a partner agency of the CKFTF.
During the fugitive investigation information was developed that Proffit Jr. could be in the Jackson County/McDowell County, North Carolina area. In coordination with CKFTF the USMS Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force (CRFTF) Asheville, NC office took Proffitt Jr. into custody without incident. McDowell County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the arrest.
Proffitt Jr. was taken to McDowell County Jail to await extradition back to Kentucky.
