U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests New York Shooting Suspect in Wilkes-Barre

Scranton, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Alexander James Casciani McElroy – a 23-year old man with past addresses in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and Rochester, New York.

On April 19, 2020, the Rochester Police Department investigated a shooting in the first block of Diringer Place. As a result of their investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant charging McElroy with Assault in the First Degree and lesser included offenses. Rochester police officers learned that he likely fled to Pennsylvania and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to assist with his capture.

Today, at about 4:30 p.m., task force members checked a home in the first block of Meyers Court, Wilkes-Barre and arrested McElroy without incident. He was turned over to the Wilkes-Barre Police Department to await extradition to New York.

United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, "We place a high priority on fugitive cases in which the use of violence against victims occurs. By working with our law enforcement partners to ensure violent offenders are brought to justice, communities throughout Pennsylvania become safer and more secure."

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the Wilkes-Barre Police Department; the Kingston Police Department; the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office; and, the Scranton Police Department - all of whom participated in this investigation.
