U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Apprehends Austin Homicide Suspect Wanted in August Shooting

Austin, TX – Members of the U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, in coordination with the Austin Police Department SWAT Team, arrested a man Wednesday evening who was wanted in connection with an Aug. 30 homicide in Austin.  

Santana Gonzales, 21, of Austin, was arrested on a murder charge stemming from a shooting reported in the 1900 block of Woodland Drive. A male victim sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided life-saving measures. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene that resulted from his injuries.  

The Austin Police Department Homicide Unit investigated the incident and obtained an arrest warrant for Gonzales through the City of Austin Municipal Court on Sept. 1. 

The Austin Police Department requested immediate assistance from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Gonzales. Task force members initiated a fugitive investigation and later observed Gonzales enter a residence in the 6500 block of Skycrest Drive.  

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force requested additional assistance from the Austin Police Department SWAT Team, who surrounded the residence, where Gonzales was taken into custody without incident. 

Gonzales was transported to the Austin Police Department where he was later booked into the Travis County Jail.

During the operation on scene, Nathan Carrion, 25, of Austin, was also arrested for probation violation warrant with an original charge of robbery.
