For immediate release

Josh Lowe, Deputy U.S. Marshal

Northern District of Ohio
Cleveland, OH
(216) 522-2150

Sandusky, OH – Today, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) – Lorain Division, arrested Dwayne Rheubottom, 38. Rheubottom was wanted out of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for felonious assault.

On March 22, 2026, officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Oakland Park Ave. for a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a male who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and a female who had a gunshot wound to the leg. An investigation was initiated and it was determined that Dwayne Rheubottom was involved in the shooting incident and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Members of the U.S. Marshals led Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) developed information that Rheubottom had fled Columbus and was residing in Sandusky, Ohio. SOFAST requested assistance from the NOVFTF to apprehend Rheubottom on his warrant and an investigation into his whereabouts commenced. Today, members of the NOVFTF – Lorain Division were able to locate and arrest Rheubottom at a residence in the 800 block of West Adams Street in Sandusky. Rheubottom was transported to the Erie County Jail where he will be held until his extradition back to Franklin County.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This is the second day in a row the Lorain Division of our NOVFTF arrested a violent fugitive from outside of northern Ohio trying to hide out in our communities. Great investigative work by the Columbus Police Department led to the identification of this suspect and an outstanding working relationship between the SOFAST and the NOVFTF produced a safe arrest today.”
