New Orleans Police Department, and U.S. Marshals New Orleans Task Force Arrest Moss Point, Mississippi Murder Suspect at Hotel After Five Hour Standoff

New Orleans, LA – The New Orleans Police Department Violent Offender Warrant Squad (NOPD VOWS) and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) New Orleans Task Force, located and arrested Moss Point, Mississippi Police Department Murder suspect, Anthony Rashawn Hunt (DOB: 09/19/1983) at a New Orleans, LA hotel located in the 3900 block of Tulane Avenue on the afternoon of Friday, 06/11/2021. Officers arrived at the hotel around 10 a.m. and Hunt barricaded himself in a hotel room for over five hours making threats to harm himself. It is believed that at one point a gunshot came from Hunt’s third floor hotel room, but he later surrendered without further incident.

Hunt was wanted by the Moss Point Police Department on a Jackson County, MS felony warrant for Murder that was issued on 06/03/2021. The warrant alleges that Hunt and Jamichael Jacuiz Jenkins murdered Devonte Carson in Moss Point, MS on 05/27/2021. Hunt is also wanted on a June 2021 warrant from the Southern District of Alabama (S/AL) for Federal Supervised Release Violations based on a prior federal Narcotics conviction in S/AL.

The U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force's (GCRFTF-Gulfport, MS Office) assistance was requested by the Moss Point Police Department in locating both fugitives and Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information putting Hunt in the New Orleans, LA metro area. Through further investigation Hunt was tracked to the hotel where he had been hiding. Two firearms were seized from the hotel room after Hunt was arrested. He could face additional federal charges related to firearms violations.

Eastern District of Louisiana U.S. Marshal Scott Illing stated, "the teamwork between the Moss Point Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force with further investigative work carried out in New Orleans by the New Orleans Police Department, LA State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and our office led to the successful arrest of Hunt with no injuries to either him or law enforcement personnel.
