Memphis, TN - The Memphis Safe Task Force announces the successful arrest of Dande Ashby, 23, in the murder case of Adrien Prewitt.
At 7:40 p.m. on Thursday December 11, 2025, members of the Memphis Safe Task Force arrested Ashby in the 1600 block of Commerce Parkway in Horn Lake, Mississippi.
Ashby is the alleged second shooter who participated in the February 2, 2025, murder. Machaela Shelton, 19, and Darreone McDowell, 19, were arrested earlier this year. It is alleged that Shelton set up Prewitt to be robbed by McDowell and Ashby. However, during the robbery, Prewitt was shot multiple times and died from his injuries.
The Memphis Safe Task Force arrested Ashby without incident.
“Occasionally, we may not get the suspect immediately after the crime,” said Tyreece Miller, United States Marshal for the Western District of Tennessee. “But no matter what, we will not stop until we get the suspect. We are happy that Adrein’s family can now sleep better knowing all three of the individuals involved in this heinous crime are behind bars where they belong.”
The Memphis Safe Task Force, an interagency coalition of federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, continues to demonstrate the power of collaboration in advancing public safety. This arrest underscores the Task Force’s mission: To Make Memphis Safe. Our message is clear, those who commit acts of violence will be found, and justice will be served. This operation is a testament to the dedication of every agency involved and the strength of our shared commitment to protecting the community of Memphis.
The Memphis Safe Task Force remains steadfast in its pursuit of transparency, accountability, and the preservation of public trust. These arrests send a decisive message to violent offenders that law enforcement is united, vigilant, and resolute.
