Marshals Track Fort Smith Murder Suspect to Houston

Houston, TX – After almost three weeks on run from justice, the U.S. Marshals tracked down and arrested Jasmine Johnston on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Johnston was wanted by the Fort Smith Police Department for Murder in the First Degree (class Y) and Aggravated Robbery – Armed (class Y).

The warrants stemmed from an incident that occurred in Fort Smith, Arkansas on July 7, 2026, close to State Police Headquarters. The investigation led the Fort Smith Police Department to charge Johnston with the offenses and to begin looking for her. The Fort Smith Police Department has a strong, long-standing relationship with the U. S. Marshals Service and both state and federal agencies began working together to locate Johnston. On Sunday, July 26, Johnston was located by the U.S. Marshals (Gulf Coast Task Force) in Houston, Texas at Huckberry Park. She was taken into custody without incident. “This is what happens when federal, state, and local agencies work together to keep our communities safe,” says Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Cory Thomas.

U.S. Marshals Service task forces combine the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest the most dangerous fugitives. These task forces are dedicated to reducing violent crime by locating and apprehending wanted criminals. They also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. In 2024, the U. S. Marshals arrested 74,222 fugitives, cleared 88,765 warrants, which averaged out to around 297 fugitives arrested per day in 2024 alone.
