Washington, DC - The Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force arrested Zy’kheim Bryant, 19, on a charge of Second-Degree Murder on April 30, 2026.

Bryant was arrested after a K-9 alerted to a firearm in his vehicle after a traffic stop in the 2100 Block of Martin Luther King Avenue SE. He was also charged with Felon in Possession and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm and Ammunition.

Bryant is the suspect of a murder that happened on November 1, 2024. At approximately 3:54 a.m., officers of the Sixth District responded to the 100 block of 44th Street, Northeast. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unconscious and not breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Dwaun Simpson, of Southeast, DC. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Bryant as the alleged shooter.

The arrest of Bryant marked the overall 12,2364th overall arrest since the operation began. The firearm in his vehicle brings the total of illegally possessed firearms seized to 1,359.

The Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force surge was initiated in early August at the direction of President Trump, with U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces S. Serralta leading a partnership of more than 3,100 people from 28 agencies conducting enforcement activities in all eight wards in the District.

Composed of federal and local law enforcement, as well as the National Guard, the Task Force is focused on arresting violent criminals, clearing warrants, seizing firearms, and locating missing children. The Task Force has located or recovered 22 missing children since the start of the operation. They have also arrested 65 known gang members since the operation started.

This operation reflects each agency’s commitment to the Task Force’s coordinated enforcement efforts and its mission to identify, apprehend, and hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.
