U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Mansfield Homicide Suspect in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ – Members of the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force arrested Michael Childress, 29. Childress was wanted by the Mansfield Police Department for attempted murder.

It is alleged that on May 1, Childress and another male, Kenneth Norris, 31, got into a verbal altercation outside of a convenient store located near the 1000 block of W. 4th Street, Mansfield, Ohio. According to police, the verbal altercation quickly escalated when Childress pistol whipped Norris and then shot him in the head. Norris succumbed to his injury’s days later and a homicide warrant for Childress is forthcoming.

Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force adopted the fugitive investigation for Childress and worked closely with Mansfield Police Department to develop a location for Childress in Arizona. This afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force in Phoenix arrested Childress at an address near the 7300 block of W. Valencia Drive, Phoenix, Arizona. Childress was booked into the Maricopa County Jail where he will wait extradition back to Ohio.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “From the Mansfield Police Department to the fugitive task force in Phoenix, Arizona, this arrest was the result of outstanding law enforcement efforts. Fugitives can flee, but they cannot outrun the reach of the U.S. Marshals Service.”
