U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests New Jersey Homicide Suspect in Wilkes-Barre

Scranton, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Michael Rogers – a 23-year-old male from Elizabeth, New Jersey.

On April 26, 2021, the Elizabeth Police Department responded to a fatal shooting that occurred near the intersection of Second and Bond Streets in Elizabeth, New Jersey. As a result of its investigation, the Union County (NJ) Prosecutor’s Office obtained an arrest warrant charging Rogers with homicide, weapon offenses, and lesser included offenses. Attempts to find Rogers in Elizabeth were unsuccessful and the U. S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him. The fugitive investigation revealed that Rogers fled to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Yesterday, at about 6 a.m., task force members checked a home in the 200 block of Indian Creek Road, Wilkes-Barre Township and arrested Rogers without incident. He was detained at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await extradition to New Jersey.

United States Marshal Pane stated, “It’s the Marshals Service’s duty to ensure that those charged with violent crimes have their day in court. It is my sincere hope that the victim’s family will find some measure of comfort knowing the suspect will face justice.”

The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies; including the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, the Scranton Police Department, and the Wilkes-Barre Police Department - all of whom participated in this investigation.
