Jeff Love, Deputy U.S. Marshal

Western District of Tennessee
Jackson, TN
(731) 427-4661

Jackson, TN – U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller announced today the capture of Sandra Gayton who was wanted by the Jackson Police Department for a Homicide which occurred August 7, 2020. During that incident officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing near the area of McMillan Towers apartment complex. Once they arrived officers found the victim with a large laceration to the neck. The victim died as a result of the injury and Sandra Gayton was developed as a suspect. The Jackson Police Department requested assistance in apprehending Gayton from the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force shortly after the crime occurred. During the investigation Marshals learned Gayton had been taken to Little Rock, Arkansas by an associate a few days after the murder. Marshals in Jackson coordinated with U.S. Marshals in the Eastern District of Arkansas who joined the investigation. Yesterday acting on a tip, Marshals arrested Gayton at a Little Rock Hotel.

Gayton is being held in the Pulaski County Jail awaiting extradition to Tennessee. "When violent offenders are on the run, the Marshals Service has the ability, drive and resources to find them," said U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller. "Because of the coordination between the Jackson Police Department, the Marshals in West Tennessee and the Marshals in Little Rock, Gayton will be brought back to Jackson to answer for her charges," said Miller.

The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) has offices in Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. The West Tennessee office consists of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Investigators with the Jackson Police Department, Agents with the Tennessee Department of Correction, Investigators with the Memphis Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriffs Office and the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
