U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Scranton Shooting and Pursuit Suspect in Syracuse

Scranton, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Quiton Marquel McCleese – a 26-year old man with no known address.

On April 17, 2020, at about 10 a.m., the Scranton Police Department investigated a shooting in the 1000 block of Gibbons Street. Officers learned that McCleese allegedly fired a handgun during an argument and then fled in a vehicle. A short time later officers saw the vehicle driving on Pittston Avenue and attempted to stop it but it escaped from the area. It was later found abandoned in Dunmore. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging McCleese with aggravated assault, person not to possess firearms and lesser included offenses. The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to assist with his capture.

Today, at about 6:30 a.m., task force members checked a hotel in the 3400 block of Erie Boulevard East, Dewitt, New York and arrested McCleese without incident. He was turned over to the Onondaga County Justice Center to await extradition to Pennsylvania.

United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, "We place a high priority on fugitive cases in which the use of violence against victims occurs. By working with our law enforcement partners to ensure violent offenders are brought to justice, communities throughout Pennsylvania become safer and more secure."

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the Wilkes-Barre Police Department; the Kingston Police Department; the Bradford County Sheriff's Office; and, the Scranton Police Department - all of whom participated in this investigation.
