U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Georgia Sex Assault Suspect in York County

Harrisburg, PA – Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Rashad Jamal Matthews, a 30-year old man with no fixed address.

On August 29, 2019, the Savannah (Georgia) Police Department investigated a home-invasion in which a woman was sexually assaulted. On November 1st, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Matthews with Aggravated Sodomy, Rape, Aggravated Assault, and Home Invasion. Attempts to find Matthews in Savannah were unsuccessful and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him.

Yesterday at about 9 a.m., the fugitive investigation led the task force to a home in the first block of Tate Way, York, Pennsylvania – where Matthews was arrested without incident. He was turned over to the York County Sheriff’s Office Central Booking Unit to await extradition to Georgia.

U.S. Marshal Martin Pane said, “The U.S. Marshals Service recognizes the importance of bringing those charged with serious sex crimes to justice as quickly as possible. We give these type of cases our utmost attention. It is my hope that the victim and community will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the York City Police Department; the York County Sheriff’s Department; and the York County District Attorney’s Office – all of whom participated in this investigation.
