Washington, DC – A U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and Dallas Police Department (DPD) initiative focused on finding and apprehending violent offenders wanted for robbery and aggravated robbery offenses has resulted in 61 arrests and 123 warrants being cleared.

Operation Clean Sweep, conducted in the greater Dallas area from Feb. 2-March 12, was a coordinated investigative effort to identify suspects wanted for multiple robberies and aggravated robberies. Many of those arrested had extensive criminal histories that included prior robberies, shootings, drug charges, and murders.

Officers from Mesquite Police Department, the Garland Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office assisted in the operation.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux, acting U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Texas Sean Malecha and DPD Sgt. Sheldon Smith announced the results of the operation in a press conference Tuesday.

“Our data tells us that a small number of criminals are responsible for a majority of the crime,” said Comeaux. “By partnering with the U.S. Marshals, we are able to multiply our manpower and take these fugitives off the street before they can re-offend.”

“Our figures here, produced in the Northern District of Texas, account for about 4% of our national workload when it comes to robbery cases,” Malecha said, “and 70% of north Texas’s arrests for robbery were cases that originated right out of DFW (Dallas Fort Worth).”

Because of the investigative work by the Robbery Unit and Serial Robbery Task Force detectives to identify these suspects, followed by the tracking and arrests by the Marshals, the Fugitive Unit and patrol Crime Response Teams, Dallas saw a 17.75% reduction in robberies of individuals and a 35.29% reduction in robberies of businesses during the operational period.

The U.S. Marshals have a long history of providing assistance and expertise to other law enforcement agencies in support of fugitive investigations. The success of U.S. Marshals task force initiatives, combined with the outstanding relationships forged with other law enforcement agencies, has led to the formation of permanent fugitive task forces, as well as ad-hoc task forces in response to unique cases that pose immediate threat to the public. In 2025, U.S. Marshals Service-led fugitive task forces arrested over 73,000 federal, state and local fugitives and cleared nearly 88,000 warrants.
