BOSTON – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Districts of Massachusetts and Connecticut today announced the arrest of a Massachusetts fugitive wanted for Assault to Murder in Hartford, Connecticut, on November 3, 2026.
Sanedlly Santana, 26, was arrested in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred in New Bedford, Massachusetts on October 10, 2026. Specifically, during a fight at a local bar, a male victim was stabbed in the chest, and a female victim was stabbed in the neck. Both victims were transported to a local hospital and survived their injuries.
On October 13, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Santana out of the New Bedford District Court on charges of Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault and Battery, in connection with the stabbing of the female victim.
Investigators with the USMS Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force (MAFTF) developed information that Santana was in Connecticut. Through collaboration between the two districts, members of the USMS District of Connecticut Fugitive Task Force arrested Santana without incident in Hartford, CT.
Santana is being held on a fugitive from justice charge in Connecticut and is awaiting extradition to Massachusetts to face the charges in New Bedford District Court.
“One of the greatest strengths of the U.S. Marshals Service is our extraordinary nationwide network of law enforcement partnerships,” said Dennis Matulewicz, Attorney General-designated U.S. Marshal for the District of Massachusetts. “This arrest demonstrates our ability to seamlessly coordinate across state lines, our unwavering commitment to protecting the communities we serve, and our determination to bring violent fugitives to justice. Our thoughts are with the victims of this violent attack, and we wish them both a full and speedy recovery.”
John Iverson, Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of Connecticut, said, “The collaborative investigation by the Massachusetts and Connecticut Fugitive Task Forces ensured this apprehension occurred quickly and highlights the strong partnerships throughout the region. New England presents a unique landscape with close borders, leading violent criminals to flee the state, believing they may evade law enforcement. This case is a strong reminder that the U.S. Marshals Service will find and apprehend those charged with violent crimes, no matter where you abscond.”
USMS MAFTF participants include the USMS District of Massachusetts, Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police, Brockton Police, Cambridge Police, Chicopee Police, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Haverhill Police, Lowell Police, Middlesex Sheriff’s Department, New Bedford Police, Plymouth County Sheriff's Department, Quincy Police, Randolph Police, Rochester Police, Springfield Police, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, West Springfield Police, Worcester Police, Massachusetts National Guard Counter Drug Program, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The USMS and its law enforcement partners remain committed to identifying, locating, and apprehending violent fugitives, developing actionable intelligence, and working collaboratively to enhance public safety throughout Massachusetts and across the nation.
The USMS reminds the public that criminal charges and allegations are accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
