U.S. Marshals Arrest Milford Murder Suspects

New Haven, CT  – The U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force (NYNJRFTF) arrested today in New York a man identified as the second suspect in a June 3 home invasion murder in Milford.

Ivan Barias-Florimon, 24, of Bronx, New York, has been charged with felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, home invasion, criminal attempt to commit murder, assault 1st degree on an elderly person and home invasion.

The Milford Police Department identified Barias-Florimon and Stuar Lopez-Reyes, 25, as the suspects in the shooting death of Fredrick Werner, 69, and attempted murder of Sandra Cooper, 69, of Milford.

On June 3 Milford Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 800 area of East Broadway. Upon arrival, officers located Werner and Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds. Werner later succumbed to his injuries. Cooper was transported to the hospital and survived her injuries.

After an investigation, arrest warrants were issued July 28 for Barias-Florimon and Lopez-Reyes charging them with murder. The apprehension for these suspects was delegated to the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in Connecticut. On July 30 the U.S. Marshals, along with Milford and New Haven police arrested Lopez-Reyes in New Haven.

After investigators developed information that Barias-Florimon was living in the Bronx, a collateral lead was sent to the New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force in New York.

The NYNJRFTF located and arrested Barias-Florimon in the 400 block of East 140th Street without incident. Barias-Florimon was transported to the NYPD (New York Police Department), where he is being held pending extradition to Connecticut with a court-set bond of $3 million.

Since the inception of the U.S. Marshals – Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force in 1999, these partnerships have resulted in over 11,046 arrests. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sexual predators. Membership agencies include Hartford, Bridgeport, Norwalk, Naugatuck and Waterbury Police Departments and Homeland Security Investigations. These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, eight regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
