16-Year-Old Canton Murder Suspect Arrested in Cleveland by U.S. Marshals

Cleveland, OH – Late this afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Sahveon Monroe, 16.  Monroe was wanted by the Canton Police Department for murder, discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises and felonious assault.

On Tuesday, July 14, Canton Police responded to the 900 block of Alan Page Dr. SE in Canton.  When they arrived, they found the victim, Jordan Horton, 19, with a gunshot wound to his back. Canton Police gathered information that two individuals were involved in connection to the crime.  The first, Jason Singletary, 25, was arrested by Canton Police shortly after the crime occurred.  The second, Sahveon Monroe, fled as a fugitive.

Members of the NOVFTF immediately began looking for Monroe and followed up on numerous leads.  Today, members of the Canton and Cleveland Division of the NOVFTF attempted to arrest Monroe in a home in the 11600 block of Hopkins Ave. in Cleveland. During the arrest attempt, Monroe barricaded himself in the basement of the home.  Task force officers deployed OC spray and pepper balls into the home to get Monroe to surrender.  Eventually Monroe was taken into custody without injury to himself or law enforcement.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This suspect had no intention of doing the right thing by turning himself in, without the dedicated work of the members of our task force from Canton to Cleveland and all across northern Ohio this suspect could have caused more violence across our communities.  He is behind bars and the community is safer for it.”
