U.S. Marshals in Youngstown Involved in Officer-Involved Shooting

For immediate release

Youngstown, OH – This afternoon, during an attempted arrest of a fugitive, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) were involved in an officer-involved shooting.

Members of the task force were looking for a 74-year-old white male who was wanted by the Poland Village Police Department for failing to comply with police orders after fleeing from a traffic stop.

Members of the task force arrived at the address where the suspect was believed to be living and spoke with other family members in the home.  Officers eventually made contact with the suspect, who was in a motorhome that was parked on the property.  As officers called out to the suspect inside the motorhome, he brandished a firearm and pointed it at officers. At that time officers fired at the suspect.  EMS was called to the scene, and members of the task force provided emergency medical care until EMS arrived.  The suspect was transported to the hospital and is currently being treated for his injuries.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will be handling the investigation.
