Robbery Suspect Barricaded in Home Arrested by U.S. Marshals

For immediate release

Cleveland, OH – Late this afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), along with the Cleveland Division of Police SWAT Team, arrested Sheldon Payne, 29.

Payne was wanted by numerous police agencies in the Cleveland area including Cleveland, Solon, Brooklyn, and Strongsville Police Departments. Warrants were issued for multiple robberies, thefts, shoplifting, and fraud. On at least two separate occasions Payne is alleged to have pepper sprayed employees prior to the crimes.

Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force narrowed down a location for Payne in the 9600 block of Nelson Ave. on Cleveland’s east side. When officers made contact at the home Payne barricaded himself inside the residence. Inside the home with him was an adult female and a small child. Cleveland Division of Police SWAT Team assisted at the scene during the barricade. After over three hours of being barricaded in the home, Payne eventually surrendered to law enforcement without further incident. The woman and small child were safely removed form the home as well.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This suspect has caused havoc all across the Cleveland area, hopefully those affected by his crimes sleep better knowing he is behind bars.”
