U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests York Homicide Suspect

For immediate release

Harrisburg, PA – Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Marvin Lamier Butler, a 29-year old York man.

On October 25, 2019, the York City Police Department investigated a fatal shooting in the 400 block of West King Street. As a result of that investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Butler with Criminal Homicide and lesser included offenses. At the time of the shooting, Butler was wanted by the Springettsbury Township Police Department for the alleged sale of cocaine. Attempts to find Butler in York were unsuccessful and the fugitive case was adopted by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force.

On March 30, 2020, a woman in Charlotte, North Carolina alleged that she escaped from Butler after he held her against her will, assaulted her and threatened her with a handgun. Butler escaped from the scene of that incident before police officers arrived.

Today at about 2:30 p.m., members of the task force checked the 1500 block of Noble Avenue in the Bronx and arrested Butler without incident. He awaits extradition to Pennsylvania.

U.S. Marshal Martin Pane said, "The U.S. Marshals Service recognizes the importance of bringing those charged with multiple violent crimes to justice as quickly as possible. We give these type of cases our utmost attention. It is my hope that the victim and family members will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody."

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the York City Police Department; the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the York County Sheriff's Office; the York County District Attorney’s Office; the Northern York County Regional Police Department; and, the Spring Garden Township Police Department - all of whom participated in this arrest.
