U.S. Marshals in Wyoming Close Out ‘Operation Spring Cleaning’ with Arrest of Longstanding Fugitive

For immediate release

Cheyenne, WY — The U.S. Marshals Service District of Wyoming, in coordination with state and local law enforcement partners, apprehended Adrian Cunningham today, bringing a fugitive investigation spanning more than five years to a close and marking the conclusion of Operation Spring Cleaning.

Cunningham was wanted on a felony warrant for probation violation stemming from a burglary case. The warrant was issued in January 2021. His criminal history includes offenses involving firearms, narcotics, domestic assault, burglary, and probation violations.

Earlier this year, the District of Wyoming launched Operation Spring Cleaning, a multiagency initiative focused on locating individuals wanted on violent and other high-priority warrants while assisting Laramie County authorities in resolving longstanding fugitive cases. The operation resulted in multiple apprehensions in Wyoming and across the country.

Cunningham remained the final outstanding target of the operation.

Through continued investigative efforts, the task force developed information indicating Cunningham was in the Cheyenne area and may have been in possession of firearms, including a rifle. Investigators also learned that several children, including an infant, were present at the residence where Cunningham had been staying.

Investigators subsequently located Cunningham away from the residence and attempted to take him into custody. Cunningham fled in a U-Haul truck, resulting in a vehicle pursuit. Personnel from the Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol coordinated the response and deployed tire-deflation devices. The pursuit concluded on the east side of Cheyenne, where Cunningham was taken into custody without further incident.

“Today’s apprehension reflects the persistence of our investigators and the strength of our law enforcement partnerships,” said Michael Thomas, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal for the District of Wyoming. “For more than five years, Cunningham remained wanted, but the passage of time did not diminish our commitment to this case. Operation Spring Cleaning demonstrates what can be accomplished when federal, state, county, and local agencies work together with a shared commitment to public safety and accountability.”

Cunningham’s apprehension officially concludes Operation Spring Cleaning and represents the culmination of months of coordinated investigative and enforcement efforts resulting in multiple arrest and violent crime reduction throughout the nation and the great state of Wyoming.

The U.S. Marshals Service District of Wyoming recognizes the Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and all participating law enforcement personnel for their professionalism, coordination, and commitment to public safety.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
