Justin M. Hamrock was sworn in as the Acting United States Marshal for the Central District of Illinois (C/IL) on May 21, 2026, following his designation by the Attorney General of the United States.
Acting United States Marshal Hamrock oversees all United States Marshals Service (USMS) operations in the C/IL, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Acting Marshal Hamrock began his law enforcement career as a Student Intern with the USMS in 2009. While awaiting to become a Deputy United States Marshal (DUSM), Mr. Hamrock worked in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In 2011, Mr. Hamrock was selected to become a DUSM with the USMS in the Eastern District of Missouri. Here, Mr. Hamrock worked in a variety of different roles from operations to enforcement matters before ultimately becoming a Team Leader on the Metropolitan Fugitive Task Force.
In 2017, Mr. Hamrock was selected to become a Supervisory Deputy United States Marshal (SDUSM) in the C/IL, where he served as the Enforcement SDUSM for the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (GLRFTF) combatting violent crime within the communities of C/IL. The GLRFTF-C/IL consisted of three active Task Force Teams comprised of state and local Task Force Officers and DUSMs.
In 2019, Mr. Hamrock was selected to become the Chief Deputy United States Marshal in C/IL. In this role, Mr. Hamrock fostered relationships to promote growth within the District, adopted modernization of law enforcement techniques, optimized the allocation of resources at hand, and worked with state, local, and federal partners endorsing safety in the communities within C/IL. In December of 2025, following the retirement of the former United States Marshal and pursuant to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, Mr. Hamrock assumed the role of Acting Marshal for the C/IL until his designation by the Attorney General.
Mr. Hamrock holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and a minor in Criminal Justice from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. In addition, he is a USMS Certifying Officer, a Voting Member of the C/IL Facility Security Committee, and a graduate of the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers.
