Making D.C. Safe & Beautiful Task Force Update: 48 Arrested, 6 Guns Recovered Tuesday

WASHINGTON – The Making the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force on Tuesday executed 48 arrests, including two for murder, and recovered six illegal guns.

Of note:

George Shaw, 53, was arrested at an apartment in the 1800 block of Irving Street NE and transported to the Metropolitan Police Department-Homicide Branch where he was charged pursuant to a District of Columbia Superior Court Warrant for first-degree murder while armed for his role in a shooting that occurred on July 4.

Dayvon Gordon, 35, who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including first-degree murder in Prince Georges County, Maryland, was arrested after task force members observed him leaving a residence in the 2900 block of MLK Jr. Boulevard SE. A search incident to his arrest yielded a firearm.

Solomon Desta, 53, was arrested at an apartment in the 3900 block of Georgia Avenue NW on active warrants issued July 11 in Montgomery County, Maryland, where he is alleged to have assaulted two underage female victims on June 21.

Since the launch of the Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force initiative, officers have made 15,426 arrests, including 35 for homicide, 3,007 for narcotics, 1,540 for weapons offenses, and 51 for sex offenses. There have been 92 known gang members arrested, 625 juveniles arrested, and 25 missing children located.

The D.C. Safe and Beautiful operation was initiated at the direction of President Trump, with U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta leading a task force of more than 4,000 people from 28 agencies conducting enforcement activities in all eight wards in the district, all focused on arresting violent criminals, clearing warrants, seizing firearms, and locating missing children.  All agencies involved are committed to a coordinated enforcement effort to identify, apprehend, and hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.

The Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force is making history as the largest collaboration of law enforcement and the National Guard brought together with the mission to proactively end crime in a major city in modern history. The task force is well on the way to making D.C. the safest and most beautiful city in America.
