
The Honorable Robert Rotter was sworn in as the United States Marshal for the Northern District of Iowa on June 2, 2026, following his confirmation by the United States Senate.
United States Marshal Rotter oversees all United States Marshals Service (USMS) operations in the Northern District of Iowa, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Marshal Rotter joined the USMS with over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including serving as a Technical Accident Investigator, Canine Officer, Sergeant, Captain, and Chief Deputy with the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Rotter most recently served as the Sheriff of Iowa County, in Marengo, Iowa.
As a Sheriff for Iowa County, Marengo, Iowa, Mr. Rotter was known as forward-thinking, with a proven track record of effective leadership and community engagement. He was proactive in maintaining public safety, implementing innovative law enforcement strategies, and ensuring the wellbeing of the community. An articulate communicator, Mr. Rotter has the ability to inspire and lead teams toward achieving common goals. He is committed to upholding law with integrity and excellence.
Mr. Rotter attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and holds an Associate Degree in Arts from the Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
