The Honorable Steven O. Lewis was sworn in as the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Missouri on May 26, 2026, after his confirmation by the United States Senate.
States Marshal Lewis oversees all United States Marshals Service operations in the Eastern District of Missouri, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Marshal Lewis has over three decades of distinguished law enforcement experience, building a career defined by logical progression, strategic leadership, and an unwavering commitment to public service. His professional journey began in local law enforcement, where he served for 35 years. This foundational era culminated in his role as the Chief of Police for the Ellisville Police Department, where he prioritized community safety, advanced tactical readiness, and structural modernization. His leadership extended far beyond his own department, serving as Past President of both the Law Enforcement Officials of Greater St. Louis and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy Associates.
Recognizing that modern law enforcement demands rigorous intellectual preparation, Mr. Lewis balanced his extensive field experience with advanced executive education. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Administration of Justice from Lindenwood University, Masters Credits from the University of Virginia, and is a graduate of the 236th Session of the FBI National Academy. His specialized credentials include the Secret Service Dignitary Protection Seminar, the Southern Police Institute Chief Executive Leadership Course, and St. Louis University’s Seminar on Leadership and Organizational Change. This potent combination of executive command and advanced training naturally accelerated his career to the national stage. In 2024, he was selected as an FBI National Fellow at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. Recognizing his strategic acumen, FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey selected him in 2025 to serve as his Chief of Staff and Executive Advisor, tasking him with building an elite leadership team alongside the highest echelons of the Bureau.
