Daniel Satterlee, U.S. Marshal for the District of South Dakota

The Honorable Daniel Satterlee was sworn in as the United States Marshal for the District of South Dakota on June 1, 2026, following his confirmation by the United States Senate.

United States Marshal Satterlee oversees all United States Marshals Service (USMS) operations in the District of South Dakota, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.

Marshal Satterlee joined the USMS with over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including serving as a Senior Correctional Officer with the South Dakota Department of Corrections; Special Agent, Supervisory Special Agent, and Assistant Director with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; and Fusion Center Liaison Coordinator with the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. Mr. Satterlee most recently served as the Director of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation in Pierre, South Dakota.

As the Director at the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Mr. Satterlee has a proven track record in enhancing criminal intelligence and information sharing across South Dakota. He is an expert in team management and analytical thinking, having significantly improved operational efficiency while fostering robust government relationships throughout the state. His leadership has been pivotal in developing relationships with all levels of law enforcement to include local, state, tribal, and federal agencies.

Mr. Satterlee holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from South Dakota State University. He attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy, as well as numerous law enforcement development courses. Mr. Satterlee served in the United States Army Reserve from 1988 to 2005, Master Sergeant (E-8), Infantry (11Z50P), Iraq 2004.
