Suspect Flees Traffic Stop

Fayetteville, AR – On Monday afternoon, the U. S. Marshals Service was attempting to locate and arrest a fugitive in the area of Joyce Blvd. and College Ave. in Fayetteville, AR.
Arkansas State Police (ASP) was assisting the U. S. Marshals in the investigation and an individual matching the description of the fugitive was scene in a vehicle traveling on Joyce Blvd. ASP observed a traffic violation of the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. When the vehicle pulled over to the side of road the passenger of the vehicle got out and ran from the vehicle to evade law enforcement. A foot pursuit of the fleeing suspect was made by law enforcement ending at the Discount Tire at off of Shiloh Drive. Suspect resisted arrest and continued to attempt to flee from officers when he was tased by law enforcement.
The individual arrested would not initially tell officers his name but eventually told law enforcement his name was Michael Williams and he was on federal probation in Eastern Arkansas. He was then taken into custody, transported to Washington County Jail and is currently being charged with Fleeing. This was NOT the fugitive that U. S. Marshals were originally looking for in the area.
U. S. Marshals Service task forces combine the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest the most dangerous fugitives. These task forces are dedicated to reducing violent crime by locating and apprehending wanted criminals. They also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. In 2024, the U. S. Marshals arrested 74,222 fugitives, cleared 88,765 warrants, which averaged out to around 297 fugitives arrested per day in 2024 alone.
