U.S. Marshals Make Arrest in Aggravated Arson Case

Chicago, IL - The U.S. Marshals Service have arrested the person accused of starting a fire last week near Loyola Park.

Sheaves Slate was arrested on March 18th by the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago, Ill. Slate was wanted by the Chicago Police Department for aggravated arson causing injury to fire/police, stemming from an incident on March 16, 2026.

During this incident, Slate is accused of starting a fire at 1757 N. Shore Ave, Chicago, Ill. Chicago Fire Department responded to the fire and Firefighter Michael Altman was fatally injured after falling through the first floor of the residence.

The Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (GLRFTF) began operations in April of 2003, and was among the first Regional Fugitive Task Forces to become fully operational following the Presidential Threat Protection Act of 2000. The GLRFTF has partnership agreements with over 90 federal, state, and local agencies and has 7 fully operational offices.

The Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force has successfully apprehended over 117,700 fugitives since its inception and has made an extraordinary impact on the apprehension of the region’s most dangerous and violent fugitives, always striving to make their communities safer.
