Sean A. Malecha, Acting U.S. Marshal

Sean Anthony Malecha was designated to serve as the Acting United States Marshal (USM) for the Northern District of Texas by Attorney General Pamela Bondi on September 15, 2025.

Acting USM Malecha began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer with the Indiana University Police Department in 1999.  In 2001, Acting USM Malecha joined the Hammond, Indiana, Police Department where he worked as a Patrol Officer until he joined the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) in December of 2002.  His first duty station was in Southern District of Indiana – Indianapolis, where he was assigned to both operations and enforcement, eventually becoming a member of the Chicago Regional Special Response Team (SRT). He promoted to Criminal Investigator in 2004 and transferred to the District of Minnesota – Minneapolis, where he was assigned to the North Star Fugitive Task Force and commanded the district’s multi-agency SRT. In 2008, he transferred to the Northern District of Illinois - Chicago to command the Chicago Regional SRT and work on the federal warrants squad until being promoted to an Inspector on the Investigative Operations Division’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in 2009.  As an Inspector, he led investigations on high-profile fugitive cases, including Top 15s and gang/organized crime members.  In 2012, he returned to Minneapolis to work as a liaison with the Technical Operations Group, serving a seven-state region, providing analysis and expertise on various facets of electronic surveillance. In 2017, he was promoted to Supervisory Deputy in the Eastern District of Texas (E/TX) – Plano, overseeing daily operations of one of the busiest courthouses in the district and the largest faction of the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force. In 2019, he was promoted to Assistant Chief.  From 2022 to 2023, he was selected as the first Assistant Chief in USMS history to serve in the Office of the Director as the Chief of District Affairs.  After returning to E/TX, he was eventually promoted to acting Chief Deputy in 2024.

Acting USM Malecha severed as a member/team leader of the USMS Special Operations Group from 2006 to 2019, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan in furtherance of rule of law missions.  He also is a member of the Merit Promotion Career Board, various other working groups, and sits on the Texoma High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Board of Directors.

Acting USM Malecha was born and raised in Highland, Indiana, graduating with honors from Indiana University in 2001 with bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and sociology.
