Justice Breaches the Door: Fugitive’s Run Ends in Lewiston with U.S. Marshals

For immediate release

Portland, ME – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) in Maine announces the arrest of Dominque Bailey in Lewiston, Maine. Bailey was wanted on multiple warrants one being out of the State of Massachusetts, for three counts of Assault and Battery on a Family or Household Member and Strangulation or Suffocation.

Bailey is alleged to have strangled a 5-year-old child in Peabody, Massachusetts, before fleeing the scene in the victim’s mother’s vehicle. The stolen vehicle was later recovered by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department several weeks ago.

At the time of the alleged offense, Bailey was on State Probation in Maine for robbery and was additionally charged with a Maine Probation Violation.

The USMS led, Maine Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF), received a collateral lead from the USMS District of Massachusetts. Due to the stolen vehicle being recovered in Maine, they believed Bailey had fled to Maine and may be staying with known associates.

USMS Task Force members, through thorough investigative efforts, developed significant information which led investigators to a residence in Lewiston, ME. Yesterday morning, Task Force members made a forced entry into the residence and arrested Bailey.

Bailey was charged by the U.S. Marshals Service as a Fugitive from Justice, and is pending his extradition back to Massachusetts. He will also be arraigned on the State of Maine charges in the coming days.

The USMS MVOTF would like to thank the USMS District of Massachusetts, Peabody, Massachusetts Police Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lewiston Police Department for providing assistance in this investigation and arrest.

The District of Maine’s, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, Josh Taylor said, “This arrest highlights the strength of coordinated law enforcement. When federal, state, and local agencies unite, as we did with our partners in Massachusetts and Maine, we send a clear message that there is no safe haven for violent fugitives. The U.S. Marshals Service is proud to stand alongside our counterparts to ensure that justice reaches every corner of our communities.”

The USMS, Maine Violent Offender Task Force is comprised of members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Maine Department of Corrections, Biddeford Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Maine National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service.
