U.S. Marshals Arrest Violent Offender in Atlanta

For immediate release

Atlanta, GA - The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF), in coordination with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, on February 1, 2024, located and safely arrested a man wanted by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated assault and brandishing a firearm on December 20, 2023.

Garon Turner, 28, was wanted in connection with aggravated assault of a police officer during a traffic stop on the 300 block of Upper Riverdale Road in Jonesboro, Georgia. Turner pushed the officer and brandished a firearm as the suspect fled on foot. Officers recovered a Glock 27 with an auto sear switch, which allows the firearm to be fully automatic, in addition to Ecstasy pills.

Turner has been additionally charged with possession of an illegal firearm, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and narcotics trafficking.

Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force investigators had conducted surveillance for Turner at multiple locations for known relatives and associates in Clayton, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties. Investigators eventually determined Turner was with his girlfriend, on the 900 block of Hayes Street NW in Atlanta, Georgia. This location was identified as the residence of a known associate of Turner. Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force investigators requested the assistance of Fulton County SWAT to obtain a search warrant for the residence.

Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Fulton County SWAT executed a search warrant for the residence at which time Turner was arrested and transported to the Fulton County Sheriffs Office.

The USMS Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force began operations in June 2003. It has partnership agreements with more than 46 federal, state, and local agencies and operates throughout Georgia. The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has apprehended more than 44,000 fugitives since its inception and is always striving to make communities safer.
