U.S. Marshals and Toledo Police Combat Gang and Gun Violence with Operation Triple Beam

For immediate release

Toledo, OH – The United States Marshals Service and the Toledo Police Department have worked diligently over the last two months to help curb gun violence and disrupt gang activity in the city of Toledo. Operation Triple Beam, which concluded last week, was a collaborative law enforcement operation designed to focus on areas of high gun violence and disrupt gang activity. Officers focused on taking violent fugitives and gang members off the streets with an emphasis on violent crime, habitual offenders, and gun and drug seizures.

Over the course of the operation, 127 violent fugitives were arrested, 253 grams of narcotics were seized with a cash value of $150,000, and 78 firearms were taken off the streets and out of the hands of individuals who are prohibited from possessing them. The Toledo Police Department (TPD) charged another 122 individuals with felony crimes committed in their presence. Analytics provided by Toledo Police showed a large drop in shots-fired incidents over the duration of the operation. During the same period in 2021, Toledo Police captured 185 ShotSpotter incidents. In 2022, the number dropped to 85.

In response to the success of the operation, Toledo Police Chief George Kral stated, “I am very proud of the results of this TPD and U.S. Marshals Service joint violent crime prevention initiative. We will continue to work diligently to control violent crime, specifically gun crime, in Toledo. I hope our residents appreciate the level of commitment their officers have and how dedicated they are to keeping them safe. I look forward to continuing to work with our state, county, and federal law enforcement partners in the future.”

Pete Elliott, the U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio, echoed the sentiment of Chief Kral and commended the outstanding police work. Marshal Elliott stated, “This operation was the first major crime prevention operation funded by the USMS in Toledo in several years. The results speak for themselves. It made Toledo a safer place to live, work and play. I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work of our fugitive task force, the Toledo Police and our law enforcement partners. We are committed to taking violent offenders off the streets and hope the residents of Toledo feel the security we strive to provide them.”

Other agencies who worked and supported the operation were the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Attorney’s Office, ATF, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ERO), and the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office.
