U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Berwick Attempted Murder Suspect

Williamsport, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Marlon Melendez-Reyes – a 41-year old Berwick man.

On May 23, 2021, the Berwick Police Department investigated an assault with a machete. As a result of their investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant charging Melendez-Reyes with Criminal Attempt – Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and lesser included offenses and asked the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force to apprehend him.

Yesterday at about 2 p.m., members of the task force and Berwick police officers checked a home in the 1400 block of Pine Street, Berwick. Melendez-Reyes was found hiding inside and arrested without further incident.

United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “The coordination and cooperation demonstrated by law enforcement in this case led directly to a dangerous fugitive being taken off the streets. It is our top priority to arrest violent crime fugitives, especially those who have no regard for human life.”

The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Williamsport Bureau of Police; the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office; the Lycoming County Adult Probation Office; the Berwick Police Department; the Union County Sheriff’s Office; the Pennsylvania State Police; and, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole – all of whom participated in this investigation.
