U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrest Alleged Shooter in Drive-By Death of 7 Year-Old Child

Jackson, MS – On June 21, the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the alleged gunman involved a recent drive-by-shooting that left a 7-year-old child dead.

John Weathersby, 24, was found by authorities hiding out in Wesson, Mississippi, before he was apprehended.

On June 12, the Brookhaven Police Department responded to the shooting of a 7-year-old child in the city of Brookhaven, Mississippi. The victim, Quantavious Allen Jr., was shot in the head while playing inside his home. During the investigation, Weathersby was identified as the shooter. He was officially charged with murder on June 15.

On June 17, the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force adopted Weathersby’s case. The task force began a detailed and exhaustive search for Weathersby in the Brookhaven area, which included Lincoln County. During the investigation, Weathersby’s wife, Nadia Weathersby, was arrested after it was discovered she was assisting him in eluding authorities.

On June 21, information was received that Weathersby was hiding in Wesson behind an old church. Weathersby was taken into custody after a brief foot chase and transported to the Brookhaven Police Department.

The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force with divisions in, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana. The Jackson, Mississippi, office is comprised of members from the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Department of Corrections, Madison Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s, Pearl Police Department, Ridgeland Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff’s, and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
