U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Lackawanna County Rape Suspect
SCRANTON, Pa. – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Charles Schoonover, 32, in Vandling, PA.

On August 3, 2017, the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office obtained an arrest warrant charging Schoonover with rape of child and other sex offenses. The offenses are alleged to have occurred in Lackawanna County. The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force adopted the case and began looking for Schoonover. On August 10, The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Schoonover without incident at a residence in the 300 block of Main Street in Vandling. He was turned over to local authorities pending court proceedings.

United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “It is important to bring those charged with serious sex crimes to justice. It is my hope that the victim will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

The USMS Fugitive Task Force worked jointly in this investigation with members from the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office, Scranton Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and the Carbondale Police Department.
