U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Bradford County Rape Suspect
Scranton, PA - Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Shawn Barnes, 36, in Elmira, NY.

On May 15, 2017, the Pennsylvania State Police obtained an arrest warrant charging Barnes with rape of a child and other sex offenses. The offenses are alleged to have occurred in Bradford County in 2014. The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force adopted the case and developed information that Barnes may be staying in the Elmria, NY area. This morning, US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Barnes without incident in the 300 block of West Third Street in Elmira. He was turned over to local authorities pending court proceedings and extradition back to Pennsylvania.

United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “It is important to bring those charged with serious sex crimes to justice. It is my hope that the victim will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

The USMS Fugitive Task Force worked jointly in this investigation with members from the Pennsylvania State Police, Scranton Police Department as well as the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Froce and its partners.
