U.S. Marshals Arrest Rape Suspect
Dayton, OH - U.S. Marshal Pete Tobin is pleased to announce that during the morning hours of April 21, 2017 the U.S. Marshal’s Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested Jonathan Monroe, age 23. Monroe was wanted by the Springfield Police Department for rape of a child under 13, unlawful sexual conduct of a minor, and gross sexual imposition. The charges stem from incidents that occurred over the course of several years.

The Springfield Police department conducted several interviews during the investigation. Jonathan Monroe was a Springfield Township Fire Department cadet instructor where he taught children. After several interviews Monroe was supposed to turn himself into the Springfield Police Department on April 18th but failed to do so.

SOFAST officers had developed information that Monroe was currently at an address off of Balsam Drive in Springfield. SOFAST along with the Springfield Police Department knocked on the front door of the residence announcing police presence. Officers were able to safely apprehend Monroe and transport him to the Clark County Jail.

Through cooperative efforts such as this, wanted fugitives who prey children can be brought quickly to justice.

U.S. Marshals SOFAST is a multi-jurisdictional task force comprised of the Dayton Police Department, Springfield Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Grandview Hospital Police Department, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and Springboro Police Department.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and captures more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement agencies combined.
