Marshals Task Force Arrests Pennsylvania Fugitive Wanted for Rape in Nashua
NHJFTF LogoConcord, NH – Shortly before noon today, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Pennsylvania fugitive, Gary Wayne Melick, Jr., 52, in Nashua, NH. Melick, originally from Michigan was being sought on an arrest warrant for an alleged statutory rape of a 15 year old girl. This rape reportedly occurred on March 12, 2017 in Franklin Township, Pennsylvania. Since the time of this incident, Melick has been avoiding arrest and fled Pennsylvania. This time on the run came to an end today in New Hampshire, where Mr. Melik was arrested without incident.


A Task Force Officer from the Pennsylvania State Police who is assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Pennsylvania developed information that led them to believe Melick had fled to New Hampshire. The U.S. Marshals - New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force continued this investigation in New Hampshire and was able to spot Mr. Melik as he a left a Merrimack, NH residence on D.W. Highway in a vehicle. The task force stopped this vehicle as it entered Nashua, NH and arrested Melik without any issues.


Mr. Melik was transported to the Nashua Police Department, where he was charged as a fugitive from justice based on the outstanding Pennsylvania statutory rape charge. Melik will be held at the Hillsborough County Jail pending his initial court appearance and eventual return to Pennsylvania to face these serious charges.


U.S. Marshal, David Cargill said, “The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Forces around the country work closely every day to locate and arrest very dangerous fugitives, and Mr. Melik was one of these dangerous fugitives.”  Cargill continued, “We are glad we were able to quickly locate and arrest Mr. Melik, so he can face the Pennsylvania criminal justice system.”


Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 6,628 arrests (Updated as of 12/27/2016).  These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 7 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
