The U.S. Marshals are Searching for 2 Different Drive-By Shooters
Las Cruces, NM - The U.S. Marshals Service is looking for 2 wanted fugitives; Jose Zapata (33) and Jose Alfredo Morales (26). These New Mexico Most Wanted Fugitives are wanted on charges originating out of New Mexico for discharging their weapons in 2 separate incidents. Both fugitives are members of the Barrio Azteca Gang and have a violent criminal history.

Zapata was positively identified as the shooter in a Chaparral drive-by where he allegedly shot into a home. This is a possible gang related shooting. Zapata’s warrant was originated by the New Mexico Department of Corrections. He is wanted for probation violation and has a history of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drug trafficking charges. Zapata is known to regularly carry a firearm and is considered to armed and dangerous. Zapata was also allegedly involved in a recent kidnapping that was reported to the local police, which may result in additional charges.

Morales is wanted by New Mexico Probation & Parole in Las Cruces for shooting that occurred in at or from motor vehicle resulting in Injury, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon resulting in great bodily harm or death, child abuse not resulting in great bodily harm or death, probation violation/absconder, evading arrest, misconduct Involving weapons, and DWI.

It was also reported that Morales allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend with a knife, at the Petro gas station on West way Blvd. and I-10 just a few weeks ago. This is how local authorities discovered that Morales was in the area and that he was a wanted fugitive. He is also known to carry a gun or knife with him at all times.

Both fugitives are violent offenders that have a history of aggravated assaults that involve weapons. Please consider them to be armed and extremely dangerous. Do not approach these individuals. Immediately contact the police or the United States Marshals Service

Zapata has many tattoos, but has a noticeable teardrop tattoo next to his left eye.

Morales also has tattoos, but most noticeable is a large scorpion tattoo on his left cheek near his eye.
