Portsmouth Murder Suspect Captured in New Jersey
Norfolk, VA -.U.S. Marshals have arrested the suspect wanted in connection to last week’s deadly shooting in Portsmouth. Robert Lamont McClure Jr., 29, was taken into custody this morning in New Jersey.

On the evening of October 20, Portsmouth police responded to a shooting in the 60 block of Dale Drive. Responding officers found a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and the victim was transported to the hospital. The victim eventually succumbed to his injuries.

On October 22, Portsmouth police obtained warrants for McClure, charging him with first degree murder and use of firearm in commission of a felony for his alleged role in this shooting. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was then asked for assistance in arresting McClure. U.S. Marshals in Norfolk contacted the U.S. Marshals in Newark, New Jersey, with information that McClure may be hiding out in their area.

Today around 7 a.m., members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested McClure without incident at a residence in the 300 block of Union Avenue, in the city of Paterson. The Paterson Police Department assisted with the arrest.

McClure will be held at the Passaic County Jail while awaiting return to Virginia.
