Sauk County Sex Offender Arrested by U.S. Marshals in Iowa
Madison, WI - Caleb Funmaker, 29, from Baraboo, WI, was arrested earlier today in Sloan, IA by members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force. An arrest warrant had been issued by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office when Funmaker failed to update his sex offender registry information. Funmaker was convicted in 2009 of third degree sexual assault in Sauk County and required to register as a sex offender. This was the third time Funmaker has been arrested for failing to comply with the sex offender registry since 2010. Funmaker was also wanted by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his parole and the Woodbury County (IA) Sheriff’s Office for contempt of court.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad initiated an investigation in locating and apprehending Funmaker at the request of the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office. Through investigative efforts it was determined that Funmaker was living at a residence in Wisconsin Dells. With assistance from the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to locate Funmaker at that residence but determined that he had left Wisconsin and fled to Sloan, IA. The U.S. Marshals Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the vehicle Funmaker was driving and arrest him in Sloan, IA. Funmaker was transported to the Woodbury County Jail in Sioux City, IA.

The Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad is comprised of members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Sauk County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin Department of Corrections and Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Since the inception of the Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad in 2007, these partnerships have resulted in over 2290 arrests. These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other violent offenses.

The U.S. Marshals Service, established in 1789, is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency. More federal fugitives are apprehended by the U.S. Marshals each year than by all other federal agencies combined.
