SOFAST Arrests Rape Suspect From Toledo
Columbus, OH  - The U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested a Toledo man early today on an outstanding warrant issued by the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas.

Michael Buchanan, 19, of Collingwood Boulevard in Toledo, was wanted by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant for Buchanan, which was based on a Grand Jury Indictment was issued on May 17 and charges him with one count of felonious assault, one count of kidnapping and one count of rape. The charges were based on allegations that Buchanan, amongst others, abducted, brutally beat, and then raped a 17-year-old male victim in a vacant house along Woodland Avenue in Toledo. The attack happened in mid-December 2014.

Working closely with deputies of the U.S. Marshals office in Toledo, the U.S. Marshals-led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, and others, Columbus-based deputy marshals and task force officers tracked down Buchanan early this morning at a house on Venus Place in Zanesville. Deputy marshals and task force officers converged upon the residence and arrested Buchanan without incident. Carr is currently in custody awaiting extradition proceedings to the Northern District of Ohio.

Columbus SOFAST is a fugitive-focused, U.S. Marshals Service-led task force consisting of local, state and federal authorities including the Columbus Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Delaware County Probation, Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Secret Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
