Suspect in 2007 Topeka, KS Cold Case Homicide Arrested in Torrance, California
Topeka, KS - Michelle Antoinette Filby was arrested in Torrance, California on May 11, 2016. Filby, age 43, was wanted by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office for second degree murder. A warrant was recently issued for Filby’s arrest for a murder which occurred in Topeka, KS back in September of 2007. Topeka Police Department Detectives worked diligently throughout their investigation to develop Filby as a suspect, at which time they requested assistance from the United States Marshals Service Apprehension Task Force to locate and arrest Filby.

Information was developed that Filby was most likely residing in the Hermosa Beach, California area. With the assistance of the Torrance Police Department and the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, Filby was located in Torrance, California, positively identified and taken into custody without incident. Filby was later booked into the Torrance Police Department Jail where she will be held in lieu of a $250,000 bond. US Marshal for the District of Kansas Ronald Miller said, “This was an extraordinary collaborative effort between the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office, the Topeka Police Department and the US Marshals Kansas Apprehension Fugitive Task Force.”

The Kansas Apprehension Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional fugitive task force comprised of the United States Marshals Service, Topeka Police Department, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department, and the Kansas Department of Corrections.
