Multi-State Crime Spree Fugitive Wanted For
Store Clerk's Murder Captured

Fugitive led authorities on high-speed car chase
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The manhunt for multi-state crime spree fugitive Raymond Pruitt is finally over. Pruitt was arrested Friday at approximately 2 p.m. CDT after leading authorities in Troy, Alabama, on a high-speed car chase along Highway 87 towards Enterprise, Alabama. He was taken into custody after he crashed his vehicle into a tree.

The fugitive investigation gained momentum when the U.S. Marshals received a tip regarding Pruitt’s location. With the credible information, Marshals investigators contacted the Troy Police Department for assistance. When officers made contact with Pruitt at an area gas station, he immediately attempted to flee. Authorities were able to apprehend him after he crashed his vehicle. Pruitt sustained non-life threating injuries resulting from the crash and was transported to a local medical facility where he is being treated. He will later be transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility. No law enforcement personnel were injured during Pruitt’s apprehension.

Pruitt is wanted in several jurisdictions in Alabama and Florida for armed robbery, attempted murder, and murder. His crime spree began on April 5 in Montgomery when he stabbed his girlfriend and shot her with her own pistol as she tried to escape. Pruitt was also identified as the prime suspect in five armed robberies occurring in Montgomery, Ozark, Troy, and Prattville, Alabama. In Pensacola, Florida, Pruitt allegedly shot and killed a store clerk during an armed robbery on April 26.
